Redden Wins Muddy Cross-country

Chrissy Redden (Gary Fisher-Saab) just won the biggest race in her career at the Chevy Trucks Norba National Series cross-country in Mount Snow. Redden was dominant throughout the muddy race, dropping fellow breakaway companion Alison Sydor (Volvo-Cannondale) shortly into the first lap (of four), and then holding off a late race effort by Alison Dunlap (Team GT).

"I am so happy with this win!", said a beaming, mud covered Redden. "My legs felt really good, and I was super confident that I would do well." second place finisher Dunlap echoed Redden "Chrissy had the legs today; no one was staying with her. I'm just happy to hold on for second and get the national series points."

After Redden dropped Sydor, she opened up a gap that hovered around 1:30 on her chasers. Sydor, admitting to feeling a physical and emotional letdown after the Worlds, gradually dropped back, to be eventually passed by Dunlap, Ruthie Matthes (Trek-Volkswagen) and series leader Mary Grigson (Gary Fisher-Saab). Matthes bridged up to join Dunlap on the second lap, but then dropped back on the third when the GT rider put on a surge on the climb. The Trek-Volkswagen rider had a bit of a scare at the end of the race, when Grigson joined her, but managed to win the sprint for third.

Preliminary Results

1. Chrissy Redden (Can) Gary Fisher-Saab 4 laps in 1:50:50; 2. Alison Dunlap (USA) Team GT at 1:25; 3. Ruthie Matthes (USA) Trek-Volkswagen at 1:33; 4. Mary Grigson (Aus) Gary Fisher-Saab) s.t.; 5. Alison Sydor (Can) Volvo-Cannondale at 5:00.
