The Biketrials part of the 2000 Test of Metal took place in downtown Squamish BC on July 1. This event, presented by Canadian Northern Shield Insurance, was the fourth round of the North American Trials Series and by far the largest trials event of the year in Canada. The event went extremely well, despite a decent rain shower during the beginner/sport event in the morning. A total of 67 riders (and hundreds of spectators) turned out to brave obstacles such as the 12 foot high tower, the logging truck and the all new water obstacle with actual floating logs. In the end, various americans went off with most of the top prizes. Schwinn Toyota's Jeff Lenosky took pro stock honours, and Alex Cubbage, from Atlanta GA took Pro Mod. SoCal ace Monica Thompson easily defended the women's title, and Norco's Kevin Mclaughlin saved some local honour by winning expert stock. There were plenty of great rides in beginner and sport, and we are starting to see the emergence of a strong group of riders under thirteen years old who will be able to challenge the europeans on their own ground in the near future.
