Nationals Downhill About to Start

It is approximately 15 minutes before the start of the Elite Women's downhill at the National Championships here in Camp Fortune. During the training/seeding runs it was raining hard, but now the sun is out. However, that is too late to dry the course out, and the riders are coming down covered in a thick layer of mud.

I spoke with defending champion Andrew Shandro after his training run. "It is a lot more technical than last year. It is more technical, more interesting than last year. I think they did the best they could with what they had." Shandro was referring to the shortness of the course in his last remark.

There are 13 women and 58 men starting. Most of the top competitors are here, with the exception of defending women's champion Daamiann Skelton. We will be posting again after the finish of the women's race, and halfway through the men's.
