Kelso Ontario Cup
(courtesy W.O.W.)

What a great weekend! It ran as most of the Ontario Cups have this summer. Sunny and hot on Saturday for the downhill, rainy and wet for the cross country. Nothing new so it seemed that everyone was prepared for it.

The DH was just spectacular. We worked very hard to to produce a much more difficult course than we have ever done at Kelso before. Riders were even bailing in the option route at the jump! Men's Elite winner was Ondrej Neumann (Gears Racing), with Jocelyn Hirtes taking the women's race. Great racing all around with a big thank you for the Spokes 'N Slopes DH'ers who helped us with course work. They finished 1-2-3 in their Junior Expert category thanks to endless hours of practice. The course was such a hit that Conservation Halton is considering leaving it open. When you're down there please let them know that you want it left up!

Cross Country. Same old story. Not bad for the 9am - light drizzle. Some rain for the 11am. Absolutely pouring for the 2pm Sport race. If you're a Sport racer you know the true feeling of racing adversity. You're a champion if you dared to show up on the line. Despite the weather there was a great turnout with over 500 racers braving the conditions. In the Women's Elite category, Lisa Holmgren (Schwinn/Toyota) continues to be the class of this season with yet another win. Great work Lisa and we hope that Rob likes the Cameron's beer that you won! In the Men's Elite field, Josh Hall (Jet Fuel Coffee/KHS Bicycles) was the victor over Andrew Croutch (Trek Ontario) and Jeff Weber (Gears Racing). Weber held the lead for the first two laps, but Croutch and Weber kept him in sight. During Lap 3, the rain started to increase. According to Hall, "I knew that the conditions were going to change quickly, so I put the hammer down to get clear. It was really tricky on the last lap so I ran some sections so I wouldn't make any mistakes." Hall has won at Kelso in the pst and he was very happy with his win.

Another happy winner was Ed Kameka, who walked away with grand draw prize of a DEVINCI Cactus Mountain Bike. Neat bonus for being there. Aluminum frame, Rock Shox, the works. Many thanks to Scott from DEVINCI and Spokes 'N Slopes for this great prize.

Thanks for coming to our event and many thanks to all of our sponsors!!! Spokes 'N Slopes, Devinci Bicycles, Cameron's Brewing, Eload, Norco/GT, KHS Bicycles, OGC/Gary Fisher, Bolle, Cyclones Eyewear & Nature Valley Granola Bars. Many thanks to all of our helpers and volunteers and especially to all of the staff of Kelso for their hard work.

Full results are now posted (Monday 9am) www.wowmtb.com. We're going to go do course tear down now, so we are going to post a huge pile of photos this evening. We have some amazing DH photos and some muddy memories of the XC. Check back again for these. As well, we know that there were a lot of people out filming the DH on Saturday. We are very interested in obtaining copies of what you have and we will compensate you. Please contact us!!!
