Abbotsford, BC, training base of the Canadian National BMX Team, will be hosting a set of two Canada Cup BMX Series races this coming weekend.

In 2012 the track hosted a UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The Elite Men will use that BMX Supercross Hill for the Canada Cup races. The BMX Supercross platform stands eight metres above the ground and has eight dedicated lanes, with a steep slope of 28%, allowing riders to generate speed for the course ahead.

"This weekend is the first western qualifying race and an amazing opportunity for all riders between the ages of 14-16, who want to qualify for the NextGen Supercross Development camp in Chula Vista, and be on the Development team for 2016 World Championships," said Michelle Landers, President of Abbotsford BMX, hosting the event.

Landers continued: "The track has hosted many large events, including Canadian Championships, 2012 SX World Cup, and Provincial and Western Canadian Series in the past, and is looking forward to hosting this event."

The Canada Cup race weekend features two days of UCI C1-level racing, which will also showcase an impressive total $12,950 prize purse, which will attract some high level athletes.

Mathieu Boucher, Performance Development Director, is excited about the venue and the organizers. "The Abbotsford BMX track has hosted many prominent BMX races over the last five years. They have a wealth of experience in hosting big BMX events, and always put on a good show for the riders and the fans alike. We are excited to return to Abbotsford for the Canada Cup BMX Series, and we know that the competition will be fierce."

The Canada Cup BMX in Abbotsford will be one last opportunity for riders to fine-tune their skills prior to the Canadian BMX Championships, the following weekend in Drummondville, Quebec.
