December 14/15 11:13 am - Canadian Cyclist of the Year Voting Update

After five days of voting, we are starting to see some patterns in the competition for the 19th annual Cyclist Cyclist of the Year Awards. As nominees and their supporters have started to 'get the word out', we are getting changes in the standings when a surge of votes pour in. However, since the volume of votes cast has started to reach more substantial levels, it is getting harder to make substantial changes in the standings.

In the voting for the top Female rider of the year, Jasmin Glaesser, winner of four medals at the Pan Am Games, has moved into the lead, displacing mountain bikers Catharine Pendrel and Emily Batty. Glasser's move to the forefront came after her road team - Optum - did a shout out on Twitter. These three are still close enough that we could still easily see a lead change. Monique Sullivan, three time gold medalist at the Pan Ams is still in contention, but it will take a surge to get her back to the front.

In the voting for the top Male rider of the year, Mike Woods, team mate to Jasmin Glasser, has moved into the lead - again, probably partly to do with the tweet by Optum to team supporters. Woods has overtaken mountain biker Raphael Gagne in the standings, with track sprinter Hugo Barrette sitting third.

The voting for Best Individual Performance is still wide open, with six riders still in contention - Gagne, Woods, the Women's Team Pursuit squad, Glaesser, Allison Beveridge and Batty.

The rider voting procedure reflects the fact that it can be difficult to select just one athlete to vote for. Instead, you will be able to rank your preferences, with the top rank receiving 5 points, the second receiving 4 points, etc. The athlete (and performance) receiving the highest average "grade" wins.

From your votes we will select the top Canadian Cyclists of 2015.

Voting ends on Friday, December 18th, so Vote Now!
