Team Ontario is seeking to recruit enthusiastic volunteers to be part of Team Ontario's mission staff team for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. This is an opportunity to play a vital role in Ontario's sport development system.

The 2017 Canada Summer Games will be held July 28th - August 13th in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Canada Games are a national multi-sport competition with participation from every province and territory in Canada. The amateur athletes that participate in the Games are some of each province and territory's finest.

As a member of Team Ontario, you will have a significant role in the development and execution of projects and tasks that are required leading up to and throughout the Games. Each mission staff member will also be responsible for working and liaising with respective Provincial Sports Organizations (PSOs) to ensure that all of Ontario's coaches, managers and athletes are informed on all important details and Team Ontario requirements so they are well prepared in advance of the Games.

The Mission staff team will work over the next 20 months to ensure that all aspects of Team Ontario's preparation are in place for successful Games. The selection of mission staff will be announced February along with the assignment of the senior members (core team) of the mission team.

The Mission staff team will aim to meet in person in early March and continue holding meetings (either in person or via conference call) once every 1-2 months with frequency increasing as the Games approach.

Mission staff must be available and be expected to be in Winnipeg for 18 days during the Games. (July 27th - Aug 13th, 2017)

If selected, you will be required to provide a letter from your employer/organization confirming that you will be available to attend the Games during these dates.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in all meetings and functions related to the 2017 Canada Summer Games which will include approximately:
* 3 - 5 Team Ontario in-person Mission meetings
* 5 - 7 Team Ontario conference calls
* 1 Coaches/Manager meeting (Fall 2016)
* 1 Team Ontario Training Camp - 3 days (Spring 2017)
* Specific meetings with assigned core team
* Specific meetings with assigned PSOs
* Specific PSO training camp/events as required

• As the Team Ontario lead, establish positive working relationship with assigned PSOs.
• Clear understanding of the sport technical packages for assigned sports.
• On-going communication, distribution of Team Ontario information, deadlines and Games details back to PSOs and team managers.
• Work with PSOs/team managers to ensure information required by Team Ontario is compiled and collected by prescribed deadlines.
• Identify any issues/special needs within assigned sports in advance of Games and escalate back to core team as required.
• Read and develop a clear understanding of all Team Ontario policies, procedures and documents as provided by Team Ontario.
• Deliver a seminar to assigned sports' coaches/athletes/managers on pertinent Games details - most of which will be covered in the Team Ontario athlete handbook.
• Become familiar with overall details of the 2017 Canada Games and the Canada Games Council.
• Assist core team in completing any other assigned activities in a timely and effective manner to ensure successful Games.

Games Time
• On-site presence and support to Team Ontario throughout the 2 weeks of the Games.
• Overall support to assigned sport's manager/coaches as required.
• Attend daily Team Ontario Mission Staff meetings and provide necessary updates.
• Attend respective sport's coaches/managers meeting as required.
• Perform shifts in the Team Ontario Mission office.
• Support other projects as required - ie, office setup, teardown, turnaround day etc..
• Attend Games' related functions/rallies as required.
• Escalate any issues / emergency situations as they arise.
• Provide photos and stories for the communication team.
• Attend assigned sport competitions (when possible).
• Ensure all Team Ontario policies and procedures are followed.
• Complete other duties as assigned by Core team.

Post Games:
• Complete the final report.
• Participate in post Games evaluations (as applicable).

• Must be a TEAM player!
• Enthusiastic, positive, fun and be ready to work hard with little supervision.
• Committed to being part of the team until the end of the Games.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communications skills.
• Willing to perform functions and duties outside of your assignment as required.
• Ability to develop strong relationships with assigned PSOs/sport managers.
• Knowledge of Ontario's amateur sport system, Canada Games Council and multi-sport Games at a provincial and national level considered an asset.
• Varied and extensive experience as a volunteer, notably in a sport environment.
• Previous Games experience is an asset but is not a requirement of the positions.
• Ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset.
