Greetings from down under!
Report from Australia by National Team Coach/Manager Kurt Innes
We made it here yesterday morning, after 20 hours of air travel, and a bit of a mix up with our bags. Welcome to Australia . . . you have no bags!
Neither Tanya (Dubnicoff), Lori-Ann (Muenzer) or myself received our bags .
It is early in the morning on Tuesday, and I awoke to look outside to see a foggy and very dreary day. Unfortunately all of my warm clothes are in my bags!! Gotta love overseas travel.
Any athletes or coaches who read this who are coming over here for the Games, make sure you bring lots of warm clothes. It is 10 - 15 degrees celcius as the highs and the mornings are between 7 - 10 degrees ! Also make sure your carry on bag has some of these warm clothes in it. (In hindsight it would have been nice to think of this prior to my own packing ).
We went to the South Australia Sports Institute yesterday to check it out. To my amazement, the first thing you see when you walk into the athlete/coach resource centre is lo and behold a picture of the (Calgary) Olympic Oval! One of the posters from the oval (silver background with the panaramic photo of the oval from the end of the start straightaway). This was pretty amazing to see. In this place, thousands of kilometers away, and the first thing you see is a picture of where you are from! Very neat.
We are basically at the mercy of the airlines today, if we get our stuff the girls are going to go and do a spin on the track. No stuff, we are going back to the SASI to ride on the stationary bikes again.
More news later.
