This year Edmonton will host the summer extreme sports festival FISE (Festival International des Sports Extrêmes), the first time the series has come to North America. Edmonton is the exclusive Canadian city for 2016-2018.

Created in 1997 in Montpellier, France, FISE has grown to the third largest gathering event after the Tour de France and the Vendée Globe. New for 2016, BMX Freestyle is now a recognized cycling discipline, certified by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body for cycling recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

FISE World Edmonton will take place on September 16-18, 2016 at Hawrelak Park. It is an international competition opened to professional and amateur riders in these four disciplines:

• BMX Freestyle - this event is part of the UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup
• BMX Flat
• Mountain Bike Slopestyle
• Skateboard Street

FISE is a family-friendly festival atmosphere with vendors, beer gardens. It is free to spectators.
