Laurie De L'Étoile-Harland, of Loto-Québec's Social Commitment Department, joined the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ), to announce the names of 14 inspiring athletes that will share $40,000 worth of bursaries via the Loto-Québec Bursary Program. The Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard hosted the awards presentation, which took place during the Défi sportif AlterGo, an event that Loto-Québec sponsors.

Para-cyclists Annie Bouchard of Baie-St-Paul received $2000, Matthieu Croteau Daigle of Thetford Mines was awarded $3000 and Charles Moreau of Victoriaville also received $3000.

In its ninth year, the bursary program seeks to support athletes with physical or sensory limitations who pursue sports excellence on the provincial, national, or international stage. Loto-Québec is especially proud to introduce its 14 bursary recipients, all of whom demonstrate noteworthy achievement and inspirational determination in sport; five of these recipients have excellent chances of representing Canada at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games this summer. Loto-Québec has decided to renew its partnership with the Foundation for two more years.

The bursary is managed by the FAEQ in association with various sports federations and associations for athletes with physical or sensory limitations, including: Parasports Québec, the Association québécoise de sports pour paralytiques cérébraux (AQSPC), the Association sportive des sourds du Québec (ASSQ), the Association sportive des aveugles du Québec (ASAQ) and other sport federations.

FAEQ President Claude Chagnon was very pleased with Loto-Québec partnership renewal announcement, as the bursary assists athletes who have surpassed serious illnesses and accidents to come back with strength and panache.

"After numerous years of existence, the Loto-Québec Bursary Program has developed quite a favourable reputation, and is well-known in the sports world. Sponsored athletes are truly models of perseverance for their fellow athletes, as well as for all Québecers. Loto-Québec's continued investment will enable the Foundation to reach its objectives - a key goal being increasing the number of bursaries awarded to athletes with a significant physical limitation," said Mr. Chagnon.
