On Sunday, August 28th, riders will leave from Shimano Canada's head office in Peterborough, Ontario, for the inaugural Shimano Gran Fondo.

Located in the heart of the Kawarthas region, part of the Gran Fondo's inspiration stems from an award-winning partnership launched in 2015 between Shimano Canada and Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism Division. The project was designed to identify cycling friendly roads and marked them with street signs to encourage cycling in the region. The Shimano Gran Fondo will be one of the first formal events to use these roads.

The ride is intended to be a smaller, grassroots event that will create a personal experience for every rider. Registrants can expect smaller groups and pacing suited to their ability. There will be a distinct package given to all participants preceding the Fondo; a package that will include a Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Speed jersey, among other key items. Finally, there will be a fully catered lunch following the ride.

Riders will arrive in the morning at 8am to pick up their package and jersey, before embarking on a course on the ride. There will be two ride options: the Medio Fondo, which will feature a course that is 115km, and the Gran Fondo at be 150km. The intent is to have groups of no more than 15 or 20 riders that will each be led by a ride marshal. All groups will have a support vehicle as well, with checkpoints throughout the ride.

Registration is limited to 150 people and closes on June 15th. Visit fretori.com for complete information, where registration and event details can be found. Finalized technical documents will be available at the end of May.
