On February 5th, 2017, Cycling BC will be hosting the first Cycling BC Coach and Athlete Annual Coach Conference at Fortius Sport and Health in Burnaby, British Columbia. This event is open to the public and designed to bring athletes, coaches and cycling enthusiasts together for a fun and informative event that helps our province prepare for a successful year of sport in 2017.

Cycling BC is excited to announce this new conference. It is wonderful to bring this group of professionals together to help coaches and riders in Canada. We look forward to welcoming participants creating an effective learning experience and networking tool for all of our current and prospective cycling coaches.

Conference topics will include sport physiology, aerodynamics, psychology, concussion health, strength & conditioning and athlete yearly training plan development.

Speakers

Louis Passfield, Sport Physiology
Professor Louis Passfield is an internationally-recognized applied sports scientist and has worked in cycling for over 25 years. Over this time Louis has been part of several gold medal performances and has worked with many of Britain's most successful riders and coaches. Louis has also coached Olympic, World Championship and Commonwealth Games cyclists, including the Great Britain team pursuit and England team time-trial teams.

Len Brownlie, Sports Aerodynamics
Len Brownlie is one of the world's top sport aerodynamicists and has uncovered performance solutions in the worlds of soccer, long track speed skating, ice hockey, luge, and athletics. Len has also acted as the aerodynamics advisor to three Tour de France pro cycling teams, Canada's Own the Podium program for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, the Canadian Cycling Association, BellEaston Sports and Smith Optics.

Roger Friesen, Sport Psychology
Roger Friesen is a faculty member of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and has worked as a sport and performance psychology consultant in cycling, adventure tourism, and performance art. Roger's work in the field includes partnerships with Cycling Canada and his contributions have been pivotal to the ongoing success of national team projects.

Mike Conway, Concussion Health.
Mike Conway is one of British Columbia's leading kinesiology and physiotherapy professionals. Mike has worked and traveled with various sporting teams in Canada and Australia, including SnowCross, Surfing, Mountain Biking, Cricket, Soccer and Rugby. Mike is a leading advocate for concussion assessment and rehabilitation and will be sharing his expertise in the field.

Aaron Dobie, Strength & Conditioning
Aaron is a Physiotherapist and fitness coach and holds a Masters of Physical Therapy from UBC. He is passionate about finding proactive strategies that help athletes avoid sports injury. As a nationally-ranked Downhill Mountain Bike racer, Aaron understands the challenges and sacrifice required to compete at the national level and enjoys helping his athletes reach their best.

Richard Wooles, Athlete Yearly Training Plan Development
Richard Wooles is a former professional cyclist and professional coach since 2000. He has led successful programs at British Cycling, the UCI and Cycling Canada over four Olympic Games cycles and led the Canadian Track team to Olympic success in London 2012. Since 2006, Richard has also worked as BC's provincial head coach and Cycling BC's Executive Director (2012-2015) and is passionate about helping young riders maximize their potential and reach the world's top level of cycling.
