Syder Joins Trek-VW

Alison Sydor has sent a statement regarding her signing with Trek-VW (after 7 years with Volvo-Cannondale):

"Sometimes change can be difficult to initiate, but eventually I realized it was time for me to move on to a fresh challenge with a new team - one that would be very enthusiastic about my arrival. TREK/VW is a well organized and well established North American based team with solid sponsorship support from the top names in the bike industry and out of industry partners VW and JBL. I feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to race for the next two years as a member of the TREK/VW Team.

At TREK/VW I will joining up with my neighbour and Olympic Team teamate Roland Green and I'm really super pleased about that. The other four returning TREK/VW riders that will be our new teammates are all very talented riders and some of the top personalities on the circuit. We will be supported by an excellent and experienced staff, some of whom I have worked with in the past. So, some new faces and familiar faces will make for a fun mix. I think we have a very good combination of individuals with this team and the potential for a lot of great results. All of this is important during the long world cup season. Good moral is essential for the good results.

On the technical side: from TREK we will have a great choice of machines from the lightest hard tail on the circuit, a pivotless soft tail and the Fuel - an XC race ready dualie. The NORBA and World Cup circuits will be run on a real variety of courses next year so having such a stable of bikes to chose from should be a real advantage for us.

The main thing for me personally right now is that I am happy, and I am already looking forward to next season with a lot of motivation and anticipation. The 2000 season did not end the way I dreamed it would. A new team and wanting to make up for some disappointment has added a lot of fuel to my competitive spirit. I can't wait to start winning some big races for TREK/VW!

P.S. Saw on the Forum that someone wanted to know about my old car. Yes it's history. I somehow don't think my old team is going to forget to ask for it back! The good news for me is that soon I'll be commuting back and forth from the airport in a new VW. Actually, a lighter car is something I am really pleased about since gas prices here in Victoria are up to 79.9!"

Broadmark Capital, the new US team for 2001, Broadmark Capital Cycling Team, have recently added several northwest riders to their winning roster. The Seattle based team which was officially announced in October said that they would be putting forth a serious national effort in the top ranks of bicycle racing in North America.

Svein Tuft, a Canadian national team member, managed to win 20 races in 2000 and is considered one of the real up and comers in the sport. He has only been racing for two years and will join the team upon his return from the international Tour of Okinawa race in Japan this weekend.

Victoria Cyclo-Cross 2000 Prizes are in!

Thanks to Redline Bicycles for coming up with some cool product in support of the Victoria Cyclo-Cross 2000 race series. Unfortunately there was a back order delay, then a bit more than a week of the Canada Customs guys playing with it, but now final draw prizes have arrived! There was a random draw done in which every race entrant got one entry, every podium finisher also got an extra entry. The cards were placed in a big bowl in front of my 10 month old son, Connor. If you got picked up and slobbered on, you win! There is also a contest (open to all who answer a skill testing question, same method of selection) for a set of Redlines hot new Cyclo-Cross specific Radius Cantilever Brakes. They work great with any brake lever.

All details of winners and the contest are at www.InternationalCyclingCoaches.com

Thanks to everyone who raced and watched Cross make it's return to the Island, and thanks to everyone who took the time to say thanks in person or by e-mail, it'll be back bigger and better next fall!
