We are very sorry to report that British cycling journalist Paul Sherwen has passed away at the age of 62, in Uganda on Sunday, where he has made his home for many years.  Sherwen was a two-time British champion as a rider and rode the Tour de France seven times, but is best known for his broadcasting partnership with Phil Liggett; together they covered the Tour 33 times.

NBC Sports said in a statement, "Paul was synonymous with the Tour de France in the U.S. and will be greatly missed by his legions of fans and the NBC Sports family, which was honored to be part of Paul's 40th Tour last July."

Personally, I knew Paul for close to 20 years, and shared many a beer with him in the evenings after races.  He was a passionate follower of cycling, and often quizzed me on Canadians as they made it to the 'big leagues'.

Our best wishes to his family and friends.
