Team Canada took their second silver medal in cycling at the Pan Am Games in as many days, in the women's Team Pursuit on Friday.  The Canadian squad of Erin Attwell, Miriam Brouwer, Maggie Coles-Lyster and Laurie Jussaume recorded a time of 4:27.799 for the gold medal race against the USA, a personal best for the NextGen squad.  The American team recorded 4:24.099 for the win.  The Canadian team were only half a second back after the first 1000 metres and one second at the half way point, but then faded in the second half of the race.

"Being a development athlete, and at my first Pan Am Games, it is pretty incredible," said Erin Attwell.  "Coming away with a medal ... I would not have been able to say that we could do that beforehand.  And then to set a PB [Personal Best] in these conditions, when it is sub-20 degrees and the air density is high, is pretty incredible.  The puzzle pieces are slowly starting to come together.  I feel this group has a lot more to offer, but it's a good starting point."

Laurie Jussaume, also a member of the team, said "I think we were hoping for gold, but we are really happy about our ride.  We did everything we could to get the gold, but unfortunately didn't do it.  I think we can be happy about the execution of our ride and the whole event.  We worked hard over the last year to get here, and it's good to know that we can do it and improve even more."

In the only other Canadian competition of the evening, Kelsey Mitchell finished fifth in the final of the women's Keirin.  Mitchell, who is the newest member of the track team, attacked early in the race and then tried to attack again late in the race before fading.  Martha Bayona of Colombia took the gold medal.

"I'm pretty frustrated about the race," admitted Mitchell.  "I came into it pretty confident and didn't race smart, did too much work and ended up not having a enough time to come back.
