Jacob Rubuliak, the current Junior time trial national champion setting new Canadian Everesting record on Sunday (July 5th), climbing 8848 vertical metres in nine hours and 33 minutes. Set on a climb on Knox Mountain, near his home of Kelowna, B.C., Rubuliak was nearly an hour faster than the previous record, with 38.5 laps.

Speaking to Castanet, a Kelowna webpage, Rubuliak said "I started out quite a bit faster than I was planning to go. I was aiming for 17 minute full laps, that’s up and down. First 20 laps so I was doing around low 15 so I was way up on pace ... around 20 laps in, I figured I had the record in the bag." But he started to experience fatigue around 20 laps in, and his focus started to slip. "I settled into 16 minute laps, right in the middle there, I was holding that pace for a while and just tried to hang on for the last five to eight laps. It was a pretty hard [the] last 10 to 15 laps."
