Lance & USPS Cleared

Lance Armstrong and his USPS teammates received news today that the results of urine tests taken during the 2000 TDF have all come back clear of performance enhancing drugs. Armstrong maintained that nothing would be found and indeed he has been proven correct.

Armstrong will compete in the Circuit de la Sarthe, April 10-13 in France.

Courtesy Intersports

The Intersports Women's cycling team, recent winners of the Solano Cycling Classic are pleased to welcome Mountain bike superstar, Caroline Alexander to the fold for 2001. Caroline is a former Olympian (Atlanta and Sydney) and World Cup winner. Hot on the heels of a stellar ride in Napa and overall victory at the Sea Otter Classic, Alexander will sport the Intersports colours for her appearances on the road in 2001.

Starting with the Tour of Willamette April 10-16 and followed by the Montreal World Cup and HP Women's Challenge, Alexander will lend a strong hand on the hills to Intersports already proven flat land ability. Expect to see Intersports climber Sandy Espeseth alongside Alexander as the road steepens in 2001.

OBC Life Member Passes Away

Roy Fowler 1916 - 2001

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Ottawa Bicycle Club member #.1, Roy Fowler. Roy was made a life member of the club in the early 1980's in recognition of his service to the Club. He first served on the Board in 1973 as Touring Director, and since had been Social Director, twice Newsletter Editor, three times Vice-President, and twice President. He was ably supported by wife Mary and daughter Sue both of whom also served in official capacities during the same period as Roy did. Roy died at his home in Ottawa yesterday. He was 84 years old.

Our deepest regrets are extended to members of Roy's family. Our thoughts are with them.

Avery Burdett
