Jacob Erker recently won the overall of the Cal Poly Omnium Stage Race in San Luis Obispo, California held April 7-8. Jacob finished the three stage event with the same points as another rider Greg Anderson, however, his higher placing in the road race gave him overall victory. He was 2nd in that event out of a 3 man break which went away with about 15km to go and was 8th in the t.t. and 10th in the criterium. While in the U.S. Jacob is riding for the Schroeder/Incycle amateur team based out of L.A.

New Intersports Cycling Team recruit Jessica Phillips of Boulder, CO. proudly displayed the team's colours today in a 40 mile breakaway alongside Julie Young of AutoTrader.com and Lysle Willhelmi of 800.com. In her first appearance with Intersports, Phillips rode herself into the break and proved to be one to watch. The break's maximum advantage was 3'45" at one point over Prologue winner and race leader Alison Dunlap of Team GT, before her faithful sidekick Kelli Emmet buried herself to reduce the gap. Looking to launch climber's Espeseth and Alexander on the final climb, the Intersports team hit the front with 10km to go reducing the gap from 2 minutes to 45 seconds by the base of the final climb. Already flying up the climb were Young, Willhelm and Phillips, with Young nipping the other two for first and the accompanying time bonus. Intersports Phillips was 3rd. Shortly behind was Dunlap along with Alexander and Espeseth of Intersports and Kim Smith of AutoTrader.com.

Boulder Roubaix Road Race

A new course this year saw a longer race with more laps at the Boulder Roubaix R.R. Fifteen laps around a 6 mile circuit which included a short single-track section, lots of double-track and, if that wasn't enough, there was even a small sand trap!

With the course being so technical, the field of 100 riders blew apart almost from the drop of the flag. Lone Mercury-Viatel rider Scott Moninger missed the initial break of 7 riders, but after chasing solo for two laps, was able to make contact with the leaders.

It turned out to be a very long day of racing for everyone as the break formed so early in the race. The break of 7 eventually became 5 but with two Saturn riders in the break it wasn't the best situation. On the final lap, the serious attacks began by Moninger and he was able to rid himself of all but one Saturn rider, who was all too content to sit-in and sprint out the finish. It was close finish but Saturn's Chris Fisher took the win over Mercury-Viatel's Moninger.

Results:

1. Chris Fisher Saturn
2. Scott Moninger Mercury-Viatel
3. Chris Baldwin Navigators
4. Alex Candellaro Rocky Mounts
5. Mike Barry Saturn
