Espoir Team Chosen for European National Project

As the Espoir development road camp in Virginia comes to an end, some riders who have demonstrated good form will have the opportunity to participate in the Espoirs National Team project in France.

The races selected in this European program are the Tour du Loir et Cher, a UCI 2.6 event (no TT 1 or TT 2 participants), from April 18th to the 22nd; Paris Mantes-en-Yvelines on April 29th and Liège-Bastogne-Liège on May 1st . These two classics are UCI 1.7 category races which means they are specifically targeted for Under 23 riders. At these events, we expect to see the top French, Belgium, Dutch, German and British athletes.

These races have been selected as they are similar to the type of terrain and field depth that will be present at the World Espoir Road Championships in Portugal in October of this year.

More to the point, riders that will compete in these two one-day races, will have a very good idea of what is needed to be competitive at the Worlds. In the Under 23 category, speed and attacks are a common factor to every race.

From the camp participants, the riders selected are:

Charles Gorman , ON
Greg Sieniewicz, NS
Bruno Langlois, QC
Dominique Rollin, QC

All have shown good form and satisfactory depth to aspire to be competitive in Europe over this 2-week period.

The team will be completed with Cory Lange of BC, who has shown good form and improvement in the early season US races, and Kai Jenkins of BC, who is residing in France at the moment and has shown results in French calibre races.

Although there were other riders taken into consideration for this project, all have declined due to different objectives and calendar conflicts.
