Sport organizations and clubs across Canada are encouraged to apply for the 2021-22 Paralympic Sport Development Fund, as the Canadian Paralympic Committee officially opened the grant application process on Thursday.

Targeting Paralympic sport initiatives that help athletes along their development pathway, funding support goes towards sport development programming such as recruitment initiatives, coaching, equipment, competition and more. Funds can be used to support the creation of a new program, or the expansion of an existing successful initiative.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on our sport community at all levels, putting programming on hold and requiring us all to adapt," said Karen O'Neill, CEO, Canadian Paralympic Committee. "Sport at the local, regional, and provincial levels are so important for a sustainable sport development system. The great work of the organizations in these spaces will be even more important as the pandemic nears an end in ensuring there are opportunities for people with a disability to access sport and develop as an athlete. We hope support from the fund will help programming continue to run successfully in the future."

A limited number of grants will be available for 2021-22, with each organization able to apply for a maximum of $10,000.

Last year, a total of $60,000 was distributed, with nine organizations across the country receiving grants:

• Northern Adapted Sports Association, BC, Wheelchair Basketball
• Parasports Quebec, QC, Wheelchair Rugby
• Ontario Cycling Association, ON, Para Cycling
• Cruisers Sports for the Physically Disabled, ON, Para Athletics
• Alpine Ontario Alpin, ON & Eastern Provinces, Para Alpine Skiing
• Saskatoon Lasers Swim Club, SK, Para Swimming
• EB Tennis Community, QC, Wheelchair Tennis
• Ontario Volleyball Association, ON, Sitting Volleyball
• Cross Country Ski Ontario, ON, Para Nordic Skiing

The Paralympic Sport Development Fund is made possible through contributions from Sport Canada, CPC, and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.
