Doping Fallout Begins at the Giro

Fassa Bortolo has fired team leader Dario Frigo, who sits 15 seconds out of first place in the Giro, after he admitted that police found banned substances in his hotel room during their raid two nights ago. Although the police have not announced officially that banned substances were found, Frigo is said to have told his team that illegal substances were in his possession. Frigo had won stages of the Paris-Nice, Tour of Romandie and the Giro this season, and wore the Maglia Rosa leader's jersey for 9 days.

May 2001 Fly Gurlz Clinic - Ontario

The first Fly Gurlz "Womens Only" Learn to Cross Country and Dowhill clinics of the season took place on May 26 & 27 at the Adventure Mountain Bike School at Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ontario. We were fortunate to have 80 women attend the two day event that was organized by Fly Gurl Team rider Sigrid Hynscht. Chrissy Redden attended the Saturday Cross Country clinic and it was a joy to have her lead an afternoon advanced ride in Three Stages - a local area trail system. Cecile Gambin coached our first ever "Women's Only" Learn to Downhill clinic on Sunday and 10 women were fortunate to work with her developing their DH skills on the challenging Downhill trail system at Blue Mountain. The entire Fly Gurlz team was in attendance to coach making the teacher to rider ratio a fantastic 1 : 5. Team riders Heather Pardon and Katrina Burton cooked for our groups the entire weekend - making such awesome healthy lunches and snacks. The Adventure Mountain Bike School was a fanastic venue and if you are interested in Dowhill riding it is the only trail system open full time for DH - www.adventuremtb.com.

We were thrilled to host the weekend and feel lucky to have coached so many enthusiastic and special women! As a team we hope that weekends like this will continue to develop and encourage women to excel in the sport of mountain biking. We will be hosting another clinic in July at Boler Mountain - check it out online at www.flygurlz.com. Thanks to the following sponsors for their continued support of our dream - they help to make weekends like this even more special: Squire John's, Smith, Powerbar, Starbuck's, Pedros, Bell Sports Canada, Specialized, Louis Garneau, Giro, Camelback, E-Load, OGC, Continental, Fox Racing, Chico Racing, Park Sign, Running Tide Inc., Southpaw, Ron Boyd Illustration & The Adventure Mountain Bike School.

Cheers,
Michelle Ward
