June 9, 2001 - NY, NY

The Saturn Women raced the NY City Women's Challenge today as preparation for tomorrow's First Union Liberty Classic, the sixth stop on the Women's World Cup Tour.

The 35-mile criterium around Grant's Tomb was a pleasant backdrop for the many NY City spectators out to cheer for their hometown hero, Elizabeth Emery (Intersport). However, Saturn's Ina Teutenberg put the kibosh on Emery's victory by winning the final sprint out of a five-woman break. The small group containing Teutenberg and her Saturn teammate Kim Davidge, Jenny Eyerman (Jane's Cosmetics) and Emery's teammate Erin Carter, escaped half way through the race after a solo break by Saturn's Anke Erlank was absorbed.

In the final sprint, it was Teutenberg handily claiming the win, with Davidge close behind her. Eyerman was third, with teammates Emery and Carter in fourth and fifth, respectively. Saturn's Kristy Scrymgeour was second in the field sprint for a seventh place finish.

The Saturn Women now return to Philadelphia to rejoin teammates Petra Rossner, Lyne Bessette and World Cup Leader Anna Millward where they will make their final team preparations for tomorrow's big event.
