Gears Racing Canada Cup #1 - Hardwood Hills Ontario

Reports brought to you with the assistance of Gatorade and Gita North

1:30pm EDT - At the 2001 Canada Cup #1, the racing has just begun. A field of 55 Pro/Elite men will be followed by the Pro/Elite women and then the Junior Expert men.

Racing started under sunny skies, 25 degrees C with a slight wind kicking up some dust.

The men will do 4 laps and the women and junior men will do 3.

As the men came through the 'Rock Garden' (1/2 way through the 1st lap) it was Lucas Curran, followed by Seamus McGrath. A few seconds behind was Eric Tourville and Andreas Hestler. Bill Hurley, who had been riding well up near the front, had a spectacular wipe out part way through (great crowd entertainment, but Bill lost 15 places).

As the women came through it was Chrissy Redden followed by (at 30 seconds) Marie-Helen Premont and Trish Sinclair.

2:30pm - As the men completed lap 2, there was a group of 5 at the front. Andreas Hestler, Julian Hine, Chad Miles, Seamus McGrath and Matt Toulouse. At 30 seconds was Bruno Lafontaine. Then a minute back a steady stream of riders.

As the women completed lap 2, it was Chrissy Redden ahead of Trish Sincalir and Marie-Helen Premont by 2 minutes.

The Junior men had a group of 4 off the front: Will Routley, Julien Fillion, Martin Lazarski and Adam Coates..

2:45pm - The men are 1/4 of the way through lap 3. As they came out of the woods, Seamus McGrath had started to open up a gap. Chasing hard were Matt Toulouse, Andreas Hestler, Chad Miles, and Julian Hine. At 3 minutes are Ricky Federau and Jean Francois Laroche. Then another 30 seconds and its Carter Hovey.

Chrissy Redden has opened her gap on Trish Sinclair and Marie-Helen Premont to 3 minutes. Trish is gapping Marie-Helen on the climbs.

Martin Lazarski has a 2 minute lead on Will Routley.

Both the women and junior men are on their final lap.

3:20 - The men are on their last lap.
Seamus McGrath has opened up a gap on Chad Miles of 20 seconds. Then it is Matt Toulouse at 25 seconds, and Andreas Hestler at 45 seconds.
