The elite categories are underway, with Geoff Kabush (Kona) coming from the back of the field at the start to a 30 second solo lead after the riders completed their short opening lap (4 kilometres). Andreas Hestler (Rocky Mountain) is chasing, followed by Peter Wedge (Kona), Chad Miles (Roach) and Canada Cup leader Mat Toulouse (Ford-Devinci) a further 20 seconds back.

A group of four are leading the Junior expert men's race - Jeremy Trudel, Canada Cup leader Frederic Bussieres, Julien Fillion and Andrew Cartwright. They have a gap of 30 seconds on chasers. Kiara Bisaro (Trek-Smith) has a small lead on women's overall series leader Marie-Helene Premont (Oryx), with Trish Sinclair (Ford-Devinci) third, at 50 seconds. Claire Townsend (Oryx) is fourth at 1 minute. Both the junior men and elite women are starting the first of 4 laps after a 4 kilometre opening loop.

Saturn Cycling Classic

Jonathan Vaughters has been attacking and only Chris Horner could stay with him. Mike Barry, Burke Swindlehurst and Chris Wherry are chasing two and a half minutes back. The leaders are only 5 kilometres from the top of the final pass - Hoosiers Pass. After that the riders have a 20 kilometre descent to the finish in Breckenridge.
