Message From New Zealand
Lisa Horlor writes:
Hey there everyone. Lisa Horlor here from NZ. Just dropping you all a line to let you adventurous ones know where our Nationals races are and when. It would be awesome to see both XC and DH riders there. NZ is small and your dollar is strong compared to ours so racing for 2 months would be a reasonably cheap holiday (or workout) for you Canadians. There is plenty of free camping and lots of really nice people (like Craig and myself) which would make the trip easy (and loads of fun). For all those serious riders remember there are riders like John Kirkaldie, Nathan Rankin and Kashi Leuchs in our little country to give you a run for your money.
Apparently this year there is some prize money up for grabs (although it won't be alot) and some very nice beverages to help make any road trip a memorable (or non memorable) trip.
Our race classes include junior, masters, sport, expert and Pro, men and women, and we also have a hard tail class (which is often the most popular in the Downhill event) However I don't know how they do it without 7 inches of travel on the rear. Our courses are difficult!!!! Anyway here is the timetable:
Jan 18-20 Nelson (DH x2 & XC) IMPORTANT: XC ON SATURDAY Thursday Jan 17th: Official downhill practise for DH race #1 and cross country practice. Friday Jan 18th: Downhill race #1 and cross country practice. Saturday Jan 19th: Cross country race #1 Downhill practice for race #2 organised for approximately 3 hours after the XC finishes. Sunday Jan 20th: Downhill race #2
Jan 26-27 Cardrona (DH) Wanaka (XC) Feb 16-17 Hawkes Bay (DH & XC) March 3 Wellington - Karapoti (XC only) Please note NO DOWNHILL March 9-10 Rotorua (DH & XC) Final
Further details of courses and locations will follow in the next publication of Planet Dirt, early September. If you guys want any more info then contact me: lisahorlor@hotmail.com. You can contact me anyway if you want. Our NZ website is www.mountainbike.co.nz.
CU soon, Lease.
