Hughes Second at Trials

Clara Hughes, the double bronze cycling medallist in Atlanta, has taken a huge step towards representing Canada at the Winter Olympics in speedskating by posting the fourth fastest time ever for the 5000M at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Calgary.

Hughes' time of 7:00.10 was 0.86 of a second behind Cindy Klassen, who became only the third woman to ever go below 7 minutes in the 5000M. The Trials resume next weekend.

Little Mig To Race Road and Mountain

First Miguel Martinez was going to race exclusively road, for Mapei. "Not true!" said his off-road sponsor, Full Dynamix. "We have a contract for another year." Okay, so he's going to stay on the dirt...

However, Miguel is two, two, two riders in one (apologies to Wrigleys). Apparently, Mapei and Full Dynamix have reached an agreement that will see Martinez racing for both of them in the upcoming season. This should prove to be interesting, with long-time rival Cadel Evans also racing for Mapei...

Happy Birthday To...

A blast from the past - Dave Spears, yesterday.
