Randell Wins in Norway

We have just gotten off the telephone with Andrew Randell (Sympatico-Jet Fuel), who has won the 168 kilometre fourth stage of the Ringerike GP. Randell launched an attack from the lead group in the final kilometre of the race to win the stage.

"The terrain is very Beauce-like, with lots of rolling climbs. There were two big climbs in the last 40 kilometres and about 30 guys made the front group. Joe (Giuliano) and Bruno (Nella) set me up - Bruno went to the front with about 2 K to go and then Joe with about a kilometre and a half.

The final 750 metres had two corners, and the riders here don't seem to be as good at the corners as North Americans, so I attacked just before the first corner and got a gap right away. In the second corner I caught the guy who was off the front and then it was just a matter of hanging on to the finish line."

Randell said that it is definitely the biggest win of his career (the Ringerike GP is a UCI 2.5 race). The race concludes tomorrow with a 170 kilometre stage that finishes with 11 laps of a circuit in Honefoss. Randell says that this will be the race decider: "there is a super steep climb on the circuit that will really break it up".

From Norway the team goes to England for a short race and then has a week off before the Irish Milk Ras.
