1998 Thursday Night Timetrials, They're back......(in Vancouver)
(cortesy Rodney Hsu)

When?

Presented by UBC Racing Team, every Thursday, sign up at 6:00 pm, first racer starts at 7:00 pm with 30 seconds interval between riders. Starts on the 7th of May and ends on the 27th of August. Race is canceled if it's raining.

Where?

Start/finish area is on South West Marine Drive just North of 41st Ave. Race route is all along Marine Drive. You ride past 16th Ave., go through the twisty part of Marine Drive around UBC, and turn around at the University Hill Elementary intersection, North of UBC. Average race time is around 25 minutes. Distance is approximately 16.5km. There will be course marshals on the course to stop any car who tries to slow you down.

Why?

Get to spend time with your fellow cyclists, torture yourself for 25 minutes (for some people it might be longer if you have been a couch potato), find out how fast you can commute to UBC... if you go to UBC. And you get a free can of coke at the end! Woohoo! Weekly results will be provided at race site. Results can also be sent to you by email if requested. No upgrading points available.

How much?

$3 per bike!

Who should do it?

You! Anybody can do the timetrial, whether you are 10 years old or 60 years old, professional or a beginner, a roadie or a mountain biker. You don't need a super light timetrial bike. You can use a mountain bike, tandem....

Today is the birthday of mountain bike pro Seamus McGrath (or See Mus Mac Garth, as one announcer called him), who is racing at this moment at the World Cup in Budapest, Hungary.
