Alex Stieda Cycling Tour

To cycling fans everywhere,

I've put together a 7-night Fall trip to Italy that takes in wine tours and the World Cycling championships in Verona.

Imagine riding on some of the most scenic roads in the world at your own pace and with other people who love to do the same thing! In addition, you will be riding with ex-Olympic and Tour de France cyclists who will share their experiences and passion for the sport with you.

And then to top it off, we'll watch the world's most prestigious cycling event up close, the World Cycling Championships in the heart of cycling's holy grail, Verona, Italy.

Well, now is your opportunity to have it all! Join Alex Stieda, the first North American to wear the Yellow Jersey at the Tour de France on a cycling trip you'll never forget. From September 27 to October 4th, 2004 we'll ride our road bikes on your choice of challenging climbs and gentle, winding roads following the coastline of scenic Lago di Garda in Northern Italy's famous lake district.

After your ride, enjoy a cycling-specific massage and then take part in regional wine and olive factory tours. Local wineries include Bardolino and Valpolicello and Soave.

With less than 6 months before our departure date time is of the essence.

I've also taken a Spring contract to work for OLN TV (USA only) chasing one
of Lance's main contenders, Roberto Heras. Then my TdF trip in July.

Regards,

Alex Stieda

The Comox Valley Cycling Club began a new season of racing on March 21st! Thirty-two racers rode in four categories in the loop along Tsolum River Road and Headquarters Road. (see results below)

The inaugural race featured many local riders as well as those from Port Alberni, Vancouver and as far away as Quebec!

Grant O'Neill competed in the Cadet category in his first bike race, completing the 21 km in a time of 41:35. Winners of the other categories were Sonja Hanelt in Category C, Donny Brenson in Cat. B and Ken Wade in Cat. A. Congratulations to the winners and all who came out to race!

A series of races such as this would not be possible without the dedication of many individuals and sponsors. The club would like to thank the volunteers who controlled and marshalled the event including: Jenny Schum, Isabel Thomas, Brian Buckrell, Ellie Grant, Dave White, Anita Wotchell and Linda Sinclair and would like to thank Mike's Bike's for the great draw prize and Tim Horton's for the post-race snacks!

Our next race is April 11th on the Cumberland-Minto course. The popular time-trial series begins Thursday April 8th where riders meet at the intersection of Headquarters and Rennison Roads at 5:15 p.m. Group rides are ongoing and interested riders may call Peter at 898-7171 for more details. Although the club calendar highlights competition, the club encourages all forms of cycling, including recreational. New members are always welcome. All cyclists are invited to come and join us!
