Shell Canada Donates to Alberta Bicycle Association

Edmonton - Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) is please to announce it has recently received $2952.59 from the Shell Canada Community Service Fund.

"The funds have been awarded to recognize and support Shell Employees Sean Higgins-Chan, Brian Licis and Shell Retiree James Oldham. Higgins-Chan, Licis and Oldham regularly volunteer with the Alberta Bicycle Association as event and club organizers and Licis has also served on the Board of Directors. The funds will be used to purchase number plates and bib numbers for mountain bike, road, track, and cyclo-cross events," says Alberta Bicycle Association Technical Director Andy Holmwood.

"Shell believes that contributions of time, effort and caring to non-profit organizations benefit the entire community. Through the Community Service Fund, we recognize and support Shell people who give personal time to non-profit organizations on a regular, volunteer basis," says Tara Lemay, Shell Public Affairs.

"We have supported Shell volunteers through the Community Service Fund for 25 years. In 2003, Shell Canada granted $444,000 to nearly 325 non-profit organizations across Canada."

The ABA promotes all aspects of cycling in Alberta, including road, track, mountain-bike, cyclo-cross, and BMX racing. Association activities also include the promotion of cycling for recreation and transportation, through cycling advocacy and trail maintenance. The ABA is affiliated with the Canadian Cycling Association and the Union Cycliste Internationale.
