The International Cycling Union‚s Management Committee met today in Bardolino, Italy.

During the meeting, the following World Championships were awarded:

Track 2007: Palma de Mallorca (ESP)
MTB Marathon 2007: Verviers-Spa (BEL)
MTB-Trial 2007: Fort William (GBr)

Priority will be given to Mendrisio (SUI) for the organization of 2009 Road World Championships, subject to the approval of technical and logistics elements by the relevant UCI services. A definite decision will be taken in June 2005.

The Management Committee has also approved the 2005 calendars for Track, MTB, BMX, Trial, Indoor Cycling, Cycling for All and Cycling for Riders with Disabilities. These calendars can be viewed as from tomorrow on the UCI website: www.uci.ch

As for the ProTour, and in particular the evolution of the situation after the change of position by the organizers of the three Grand Tours, the Management Committee has unanimously confirmed that the UCI ProTour perfectly reflects the future orientation of professional cycling, and that any defections will absolutely not challenge its introduction on the 1st of January 2005

The unreserved support of teams and the enthusiasm manifested by many sponsors who have shared this innovating vision from the first, as well as the significant rise of the number of events registered in the different continental calendars, represent already in fact a guarantee of success for the UCI ProTour.


Le Comité Directeur de l’Union Cycliste Internationale s’est réuni aujourd’hui à Bardolino (ITA).
Lors de cette séance, les Championnats du Monde suivants ont été attribués :

Piste 2007 : Palma de Mallorca (ESP)
MTB Marathon 2007: Verviers-Spa (BEL)
MTB-Trial 2007: Fort William (GBR)

Le droit de préemption de Mendrisio (SUI) pour l’organisation des Championnats du Monde Route 2009 a été confirmé, sous réserve d’approbation des éléments techniques et logistiques par les services compétents de l’UCI.
Une décision définitive sera prise en juin 2005.

Le Comité Directeur a aussi approuvé les calendriers 2005 pour la Piste, le MTB, le BMX, le Trial, le Cyclisme en Salle, Cyclisme pour Tous et le Cyclisme des coureurs ayant un handicap.

Concernant le UCI ProTour, et notamment les développements de la situation générale suite à l’inversion de tendance exprimée par les organisateurs des trois Grands Tours, le Comité Directeur a confirmé à l’unanimité que l’UCI ProTour reflet parfaitement l’orientation future du cyclisme professionnel, et que ces éventuelles défections ne pourront absolument pas remettre en question sa mise en place, prévue pour le 1er janvier 2005.

L’appui inconditionnel des équipes, ainsi que l’enthousiasme manifesté par les nombreux sponsors qui ont partagé dès la première heure cette vision innovatrice, et l’augmentation significative du nombre d’épreuves inscrites dans les différents calendriers continentaux représentent en effet, d’ores et déjà, une garantie de succès pour l’UCI ProTour.
