Blizzard Bike Club - Fort St. John, BC

Oct 31, 2005
Three Blizzards returned from the Alberta Provincial Cyclo cross championships in Red Deer, Sunday. Pat Ferris placed the highest with a 4th place finish in the Masters C class. Robin Baillie finished 15th in the Elite class.

Eighty riders were in attendance. The Elite and Masters B-C were the largest fields with 25 riders in each. Conditions were unseasonably warm and dry. The course was long with some field riding, broken road pavement, single track with a steep loose dirt run up followed by a 'drop-off' and sharp turn.

Pat Ferris was first to race, in the Masters B-C event. He managed to work his way up to third place by the last lap but unshipped a chain at the base of the 'run-up' with only a half lap to go and was passed, to end up in 4th spot by a few bike lengths.

Robin Baillie had a very slow start in a strong field of Elite riders but continued on, improving as the race went on to get a 15th place. Stephen Ferris hung in for a couple of laps but could not continue.

Locally, Roger St. Jean was the clear winner at the Beatton River cyclo-cross course with 14 laps, followed by Gord Harris, Richard Wood and Barb Polehoykie with 11 laps in the one hour event.  Lisa Verbisky was first in the 40 minute event with 7 laps.
