After the first five days of voting in the ninth annual Canadian Cyclist of the Year Awards, mountain bikers are the clear leaders in each of our three categories:

Canadian Cyclist of the Year - Female
Canadian Cyclist of the Year - Male

In the women's category, national mountain bike champion Marie-Helene Premont has a strong lead over Lyne Bessette and Alison Sydor, who are virtually tied for second. Premont holds 54% of the first place votes cast. In the men's category, we have a similar situation, with national mountain bike champion Geoff Kabush leading 47% of first place votes), and Gord Fraser tied with Michael Barry for second place.

For the Individual Performance award, Premont holds a considerable lead, with 48% of the first place votes cast for her win at the Mont Ste Anne World Cup. Geoff Kabush is second (Sea Otter overall title) and Alison Sydor third (Sea Otter overall title).
