First Report from Mont Ste Anne

We are now on-site at the World Championships in Mont Ste Anne, Qubec. Currently, the downhillers are doing their seeding run to set the starting order for Saturdays race. We will report back with the results of the seeding runs in a couple of hours, when the results are finalized and tabulated.

We have also just finished attending press conferences with the Canadian cross-country team, and with the top three riders from the World Cup series. Some of the comments:

Chris Sheppard (Canada, Senior Elite) - the course represents a challenge, both technically and for climbing. There is nowhere to rest, and the descents are really loose.

Alison Sydor (Canada, Senior Elite) - It will be fast (like Bromont). It is the world championships, the biggest race of the year, so everyone will take it up a notch. On the effect of rain: I rode it (on Tuesday) in the rain, and you can still ride the climbs and the descents - they are more technical, but ridable.

Lesley Tomlinson (Canada, Senior Elite) - everyone will be redlining it all race, but this course suits the Canadians.

Cadel Evans (Australia, Espoir Men) - Miguel (Martinez, France) will of course be the biggest competition, but there are a number of other riders who could surprise tomorrow.

Christophe Dupouey (France, Senior Elite) - Dupouey won the last race of the World Cup (two weeks ago in Bromont), and was asked if his dominance was a message to the other men. I am feeling very strong, and for the last two months have been in my best shape. Last year I had a mechanical problem, but this year hopefully not. I realize that Hubert (Pallhuber - last years winner) and other riders are very big threats, but I think I can finish high on the podium. On the Sunn Team problems: Right now I am concentrating on the race, and I will look at the offers I have received in a week. There are many, many things being said, but a lot of them are wrong. There are no financial problems with the team. I have two more years on my contract, but this year is an option, so I can look at other teams.

We are currently formatting results from yesterday and todays Masters races, and they will be up later tonight; as will photos.
