Canadian Cyclist was the only Canadian publication invited to attend a factory tour last fall in Taiwan, hosted by TAITRA, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. TAITRA administers the Taipei Cycle show, the third largest bike industry show in the world (after Eurobike and Interbike), and the largest for manufacturers (Eurobike and Interbike are mainly for retailers). Here is one of our factory visits - to read the overview to our visit and access all the articles, go to the main page Here

Mac Mahone / Unitrade Cycle

MacMahone is quite different from the majority of companies we visited in that it is a trading company rather than a manufacturer. By this, I mean that they design and market bicycles and components under their brand names but do not actually produce them in their own factory. They are not alone in this regard; Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, Rocky Mountain and most others all have at least a portion of their lineup produced outside of a wholly owned factory.

Mac Mahone, as well as producing bikes and accessories under their own name for a variety of markets, also oversee design and production for both OEM and ODM clients. Black Mountain, Labyrinth and MBK are all Mac Mahone brands. One area they particularly specialize in is titanium bolts and fittings, for use in seatposts, clamps, stems, etc.

In North America you will not see much of Mac Mahone's own branded products; they tend to go primarily to the Asian and European markets.
