Canadian National Track Championships

In order to promote track cycling and foster the development of our upand- coming track athletes, the CCA would like to hold a junior men’s Madison event at the Canadian Junior National Track Championships. In order for this to take place safely, national coaches Eric van den Eynde and Vincent Jourdain will hold initiation and practice clinics during the week leading up to junior track nationals. Athletes, along with their coaches, who wish to participate should come to the Bromont velodrome for the following sessions:
Tuesday July 4, 2 pm to 4 pm
Wednesday July 5, 2 pm to 4 pm
Thursday July 6, 2 pm to 4 pm (rain date)

There are no specific performance criteria to attend these clinics. Athletes
interested in participating should send an email to vincent.jourdain@canadiancycling.com no later than Monday, July 3.
The CCA may cancel one or more of the sessions if participation is too low.

Clarification of the selection process

The Canadian team for the junior road world championships will be selected during the Tim Hortons National Road Championships in Quebec City, June 29-July 2.

Men’s road team:

Canada has qualified for a team of five athletes. Selection will be announced on July 2 according to the following criteria :

• Winner of the nationals road race
• Winner of the time trial or, if it is the same as the road race winner, the second-placed athlete in the road race
• 3 committee choices
Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.
Two riders from among the road athletes will also be named for the time trial:
• Winner of nationals time trial
• Committee choice

These athletes must have met the CCA minimum performance standard: an average speed of 44.5 km/h in the nationals time trial, which corresponds to the average speed of the last rider in the first half of the finishers in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 world championships.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program – please note that National Team selection for events on this program takes priority over provincial or club selection. It is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure he is available.
• OBC Grand Prix, Ottawa, July 15
• Tour de l’Abitibi July 18-23
• Training camp in Bromont, July 24- 31
• Fly to Belgium July 31
• World time trial championship (Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium) August 10
• World road race championship (Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium) August 13

Women’s road team:

Canada has qualified for four athletes for the junior worlds. Selection will be made according to the following criteria and announced on July 2:
• Winner of the road race;
• Winner of the individual time trial, or 2nd place if it is the same as the winner of the road race;
• 2 committee choices
Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.

Two riders from among the road athletes will also be named for the time trial:
• Winner of the time trial;
• Committee choice.

These athletes must have met the CCA minimum performance standard: an average speed of 39 km/h in the nationals time trial, which corresponds to the average speed of the last rider in the first half of the finishers in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 world championships.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program:
• Training camp in Bromont, July 24- 31
• Fly to Belgium July 31
• World time trial championship (Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium) August 10
• World road race championship (Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium) August 13

The Canadian team for the junior track world championships will be
selected based on the results of the Tim Hortons Junior National Track Championships in Bromont, QC, July 8-9. The team will be announced July 10.

Men’s track endurance selection criteria:
• Winner of the individual pursuit
• Winner of the points race or, if it is the same athletes as above, committee choice
• Committee choice

Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.
Athletes will only be selected if they complete the 3,000 m individual pursuit in a time of 3 minutes 44.5 seconds or faster.

One of the men’s endurance athletes will be invited to compete in the Tour de l’Abitibi alongside the road athletes. If one or more athletes is selected for both the road and the track, the Abitibi team will be completed with athletes selected based on the following criteria:
Performance in other track events (points race, scratch race, Madison)
Performance at road nationals
Tactical skill
Ability to work in a team environment

The final decision will be made by National Assistant Road and Track Coach Vincent Jourdain.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program:
• Training camp in Bromont QC July 24-31
• Leave for Belgium July 31
• World Junior Track Championships, Gent, BEL, August 5-8

Women’s track endurance selection criteria:
• Winner of the individual pursuit
• Winner of the points race or, if it is the same athletes as above, committee choice
• Committee choice
Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.
Athletes will only be selected if they complete the 2,000 m individual pursuit in a time of 2 minutes 47.5 seconds or faster.

One or more of the selected women’s endurance athletes may be invited to compete in the World Championships road race if there is a spot available.
If more than one athlete is being considered for such a position, the final decision will be based on the following:
Performance in other track events (points race, scratch race)
Performance at road nationals
Tactical skill
Ability to work in a team environment

The final decision will be made by National Assistant Road and Track Coach Vincent Jourdain.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program:
• Training camp in Bromont QC July 24-31
• Leave for Belgium July 31
• World Junior Track Championships, Gent, BEL, August 5-8

Men’s sprint selection criteria:
Pre-selected based on past results: Lawrence Leroux
• Winner of the sprint;
• Winner of the kilometer, or committee choice.
Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.

In order to be eligible for selection, athletes must meet the CCA performance standard at track nationals of 11.55 seconds or faster for the flying 200m.

Based on nationals performances, the CCA may decide to enter a team sprint team.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program:
Leroux: Track training camp at UCI World Cycling Centre, Aigle, Switzerland
• Other selected athletes: Training camp in Bromont, QC, July 24-31
• Leave for Belgium July 31
• World Junior Track Championships, Gent, BEL, August 5-8

Women’s sprint selection criteria:
Pre-selected based on past results: Monique Sullivan
• Winner of the sprint;
• Winner of the 500 m, or committee choice.
Up to two reserves will be nominated as Committee Choice.
In order to be eligible for selection, athletes must meet the CCA performance standard at track nationals of 12.85 seconds or faster for the flying 200m.

Selected athletes must participate in the following preparation program:
Sullivan: Track training camp at UCI World Cycling Centre, Aigle,
Switzerland
• Other selected athletes: Training camp in Bromont, QC, July 24-31
• Leave for Belgium July 31
• World Junior Track Championships, Gent, BEL, August 5-8
