On Sunday, October 28, cyclo-cross will debut in Maple Ridge with Pumpkin 'Cross '07, race #6 of the BC Cup Cyclo-cross Series.

"Maple Ridge Park will combine the technical aspect for riders with great viewing areas for spectators. We're trying to model it on the incredibly popular races like this in Europe, which often attract tens of thousands of spectators. Next year we'd like to run a series out here," said Barry Lyster, race organizer and owner of Local Ride Bike Shop.

Local Ride Bike Shop is presenting the race, to be held on a 2.5-kilometre course in Maple Ridge Park, which will include obstacles, such as barriers, a log, a run-up, ghosts and twisty trails.

"It's going to be the best 'cross race of the year," said Local Ride Team rider Jean Ann McKirdy, currently tied for first in the Women's A division in the BC Cup standings with Melanie Vaughn (Steed Cycles).

The day will start off with a free kid's race at 9:30 a.m. for everyone under 16, followed by all other race categories and topped off with the Men's A race at 12 noon.

There will be a great spectator viewing area, MC, cash for top categories, pumpkins, ghosts and prizes for best costume. Visit www.localride.ca/pumpkin-cross for more info.
