CCA Loses Competitions Manager

Rémi Bérubé, the Competitions Manager at the Canadian Cycling Association, will be leaving the CCA to take a new position with the City of Gatineau. He sent the following statement, and also spoke with us on the telephone about his decision.

It is a tough decision, but after four great years at the CCA, I have decided to step down as Competition Manager and accept a new challenge with the city of Gatineau as of January 5th.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been involved with the Canadian Cycling Association. On that note, I would like to thanks the whole cycling family, but specially Mr Brett Stewart and Mr Bill Kinash, who gave me that first opportunity to be involved with the national office. I have many great memories will remain with me forever.

I also want to thank the two girls in my life, Kayla and Shelley, to have allowed me to perform my duties all over Canada in the recent years. Thanks for your patience and your understanding during all these years. I will be home now.

I am very pleased with the work accomplished over the last four years around event hosting. We are making steps towards creating a true domestic cycling scene. As a result, we are now two years ahead in nominating National Championship venues. We also have a very healthy mountain bike cross-country scene and we will have a UCI road race in Western Canada for the first time ever in 2009.

All of these achievements are very positive steps that must continue over the coming years, especially on the road scene. We need a strong effort to put cycling in the mass media, to allow its full domestic development, and subsequently reached world performance that will all make us proud.

I think we have a great team in place to tackle that challenge and I wish good luck to all of them. I will miss you all, but remain available if needed.

Truly yours,

Rémi Bérubé

The change in structure at the Association [Jacques Landry as CTO, with Coordinators for each cycling discipline - Road & Track, MTB, etc.] means that the position Bérubé has held will disappear in 2009. He did say that he is a disappointed in not being able to participate in the newly structured organization, but that he will continue to assist the CCA in the transition process, and hopes to work with the CCA on some projects in the future.

Good luck, Rémi!
