August 10/10 16:55 pm - Epic Marathon Set To Take Off in Haliburton

Posted by Editoress on 08/10/10

Many people claim to have participated in epic rides, but last year’s Ontario Marathon Challenge in Haliburton gave that term a whole new meaning. Riders tested themselves on 78 km of challenging single-track and fast open logging roads in the midst of cottage country.

This year, on August 15, the Ontario Marathon Challenge stops again at Haliburton Forest, the third race in the four-race series. Organizer Dan Marshall, of Substance Projects, has crafted a new course: 74 km for the Full Marathon, 34 km for the Half Marathon. Experience seldom-raced single-track, including some trail just developed by staff at Haliburton Forest.

For those gearing up for Chico Racing’s Crank the Shield in September, preview some portions of the course in either the Full or Half Marathon. The August 15 Ontario Marathon Challenge is the perfect way to test yourself at race pace for the most popular stage race on the east coast.

All riders are welcome to refuel with a complimentary post-race barbeque. And while there’s no pool a la Kingston, you can cool down in one of the many nearby lakes. Register by the end of Sunday, August 8 to secure a snazzy t-shirt.

There’s lots to enjoy for the whole family. Haliburton Forest offers a wolf center and several beaches and lake-front areas. Or check out the local art scene in the town of Haliburton. Make it a weekend away!
