The Race the Ridge Cycling Stage Race presented by Local Ride Bike Shop in Maple Ridge, BC, is confirmed for May 7-8 and it's on track be the biggest edition in the event's nine-year history. Registration is now open for the challenging three-stage race that showcases the world-class cycling opportunities in the Maple Ridge area, while offering exciting, high-speed, and spectator-friendly cycling events on tried and true courses.

"I'm really proud of what Race the Ridge has become over the last nine years," said race organizer Barry Lyster. "Every year we step it up to put on the best race possible and the province's top racers deliver a great show. I would love to see the National Road Cycling Championships take place in Maple Ridge some day."

The competition kicks off on the morning of Saturday, May 7th with a 22 kilometre time trial in scenic Golden Ears Provincial Park that's easy on the eyes, but tough on the legs and lungs. Riders will attempt to recharge in the afternoon in time for the most spectacular event of the weekend - the Town Core Criterium. This fast-paced, aggressive race in the heart of downtown Maple Ridge is unique, because spectators can watch nearly the entire battle unfold from a single vantage point with a front-row view as riders take risks to win this multiple lap contest. In traditional stage racing style, the final event of the weekend will be a grueling road race on Sunday. Race the Ridge will once again see competitors challenge the 10 kilometre Thorn Hill course, using strategy, smarts, and pure strength as they vie for the win over multiple laps of this hilly circuit.

"Over the years, we have refined our courses and I think these three are the best when it comes to location and variety of terrain. You can't beat Golden Ears for a time trial course, downtown Maple Ridge is the ultimate high profile venue for the criterium, and Thorn Hill shows off the beautiful rural roads in our community," said Lyster.

As always, Race the Ridge will continue its important mandate to develop the next generation of cyclists by offering a full Youth Stage Race, with three stages for youth under 17 and a free kid's race on Saturday, May 7th.

"One of the biggest reasons I organize races is because I love the sport and I want to see it grow. The only way cycling will continue to grow is if we encourage youth and give them opportunities to participate in more events. I think a full-on youth cycling stage race is a great thing for kids," said Lyster.
