Canada's top downhiller, Steve Smith (Devinci Global Racing) crashed during one of his final training runs today and will not start the World Cup final.  Smith qualified second, and is currently sitting fourth overall in the World Cup standings.

We spoke with Smith for a few minutes at his team trailer, where he was soaking his heavily taped left ankle in ice water.

"I came out of the woods at the bottom of the course and my wheel got turned sideways," he explained.  "I went over the bars and just tumbled.  It could be some ligament damage, but we can't get it checked until the swelling goes down, so we won't know for a couple of days."

With regards to the World Cup ranking, Smith says that if Danny Hart (Giant) finishes in the top-20, he will push Smith down to fifth (the final spot on the overall podium).  If Brook MacDonald (Evil Racing) finishes top-four, then he will push Smith off the podium.
