February 28/00 6:37 am - Elita 5th in Arizona, Ronde Van Wind-Del Stage Race

St Jacques is 5th at Parker Dam

(Tucson -- 28/2/00) In their final weekend of pre season racing, Team ELITA's trio of Erin Carter, Annie Gariepy, and Sophie St Jacques posted strong performances at Another Dam Race in Parker AZ.

In Friday's Kingman AZ 18 km hill climb, outnumbered by Autotrader.com and Charles Schwab riders, Team ELITA's Sophie St Jacques managed to hang in on the 13%-18% grades for a solid 3rd place performance behind Autotrader's Andrea Radkovic and Katrina Berger. In 4th and 5th were Anke Erlank and Tina Mayolo of Autotrader and ELITA's Annie Gariepy brought home 6th 38 seconds back.

Saturday's mid afternoon criterium would prove to be a harrowing experience for all involved as time bonus seconds were available on every lap. During the course of the crit, ELITA's Erin Carter would fly the company colours as she rode away to take several primes before being absorbed by the pack. In the sprint Charles Schwab's Laura Van Gilder took the win. A last lap crash that split the field, caused an 8 second gap that bumped St Jacques to 5th overall.

The final day's 60 mile road race was another bumpy ride as crashes punctuated the two laps of racing. ELITA's Erin Carter opened the day's racing with a solid attack from the gun that had the Autotraders chasing for 5km. Following Carter's attack, the Autotraders became more vigilant and kept the pack together until the finale. In the end it was Schwab's Nicole Freedman who took the win ahead of Sarah Hammer and Helen's Cycles Susan Sonye. ELITA's Carter was 4th.

In the end Autotrader.com's Andrea Radkovic took the overall win ahead of Katrina Berger and teammates Anke Erlank and Tina Mayolo. ELITA's Sophie St Jacques held on for 5th with teammate Annie Gariepy locking up 6th.
