The 15th Annual Summer Solstice 24hr Mountain Bike event takes place at Albion Hills Conservation Area this weekend, June 23 -24.
Taking advantage of summer’s longest days, the Summer Solstice has grown into North America’s largest 24hr mountain bike event and is a highlight of the Ontario mountain bike season. For 2012, Albion Hills is once again set to host over 2,500 mountain bikers for a weekend of riding, camping, and entertainment. Teams ranging from solo to 10 person groups will compete to complete as many laps as possible from noon Saturday until noon Sunday with the shared goal of pushing their own limits alongside some of their closest friends.
Kids not quite yet ready for the 17 kilometre loop are invited to come out and enjoy our Shimano Kids Race on Saturday afternoon.
For 2012, our sponsors are going to make this a memorable 15th anniversary. Specialized Canada will be on hand with their fleet of awesome 29er mountain bikes for riders to take out on one of their laps. Shimano will be bringing their World Cup mechanics to make sure rider’s bikes are in top shape for the entire 24hr. The folks from Kijiji will be on hand with their rockin’ K-Car with some great prizes and Sporting life will have a well-stocked expo area with anything you might have forgotten at home. Every participant will have a chance to win generous prizes from OGC, Norco, and Specialized including a 2012 Specialized Epic 29er full suspension bike.
As in years past, the Summer Solstice is about so much more than competition. Featuring live entertainment, a retailer expo area, massage a chiropractic services and a jumping castle for the kids, the Solstice has become a festival weekend like no other in mountain biking. Add in the family camping and laid back atmosphere and you have the recipe for the most fun you can have on two wheels this summer.
