More News From Columbia

Some of you may have been a little puzzled by the last report from the Cali, Columbia Track World Cup, which made a rather cryptic reference to the return of Jim Fisher's passport, etc. Well, here's the story:

As some of you may have already heard, the week started of with a bang. I was professionally robbed by some dude posing as our bus driver, insisting that I take my bag off to sit down. Anyhow, takes my passport, plane ticket, customs papers, discman, CD's, wallet, ID, bank card, cash, and brand spanking new Oakley sunglasses along with my shoulder bag that he pulled from under the seat. All the important stuff. After visiting 6 Columbian jails, and a day's worth of police reports, I ended up being able to identify the guy, they searched his house and found, I assume everything, and gave me back my ID, ticket, cards, passport, and custom papers. The other stuff wasn't recovered, or so they say, but I'm sure one of the cops is groovin' to my tunes. So, at least I can leave the country. I AM CANADIAN doesn't work as well at immigration as it does on TV.

Maybe he will take AmEx travellers cheques next time...

Road Nationals Schedule

Some readers have complained of being unable to read the schedule of events for the 2000 Road Nationals (in Peterborough, Ontario, July 10-16) on the event website (www.roadnationals.com). We have tracked the problem down to some programming code that does not play well with Netscape - if you are on Internet Explorer, it shows up fine. Olympic Oval - Podium Project Gets A Boost!
(courtesy Dan Proulx)

The Olympic Oval, National Cycling Centre has been granted a donation of 12 new track bicycles to its junior program from Calgary retailer The Bike Shop.

The generous gift compliments last year's donation of 14 bicycles also donated by Mr.MacNaughton.

The fleet of 26 track bicycles will be used to develop young Canadian track cyclists. The bikes will provide the infrastucture neccesary to get large numbers of kids involved in the sport.

When asked why he made the contribution to the Olympic Oval, National Cycling Centre, MacNaughton replied, "...because I want the kids to have fun riding - somewhere to learn about cycling and their own potential."

Thanks to The Bike Shop's dedication, a new standard has been set for providing support to the grass roots level of cycling.

The Bike Shop gift is for all Canadian juniors to enjoy. If you are travelling to Calgary, please get in touch with the Olympic Oval National Cycling Centre (403) 220-8008 or email proulx@ucalgary.ca. The Centre offers daily junior team workouts on the track and would be happy to include junior cyclists from across Canada.
