February 4/20 14:02 pm - UCI Releases Track Worlds Quotas

After the final round of the Track World Cup in Milton two weekends ago, the UCI has released the quotas for the world championships in Berlin, Germany, at the end of the month. Canada does well except for one category - the men's sprint events - Sprint, Keirin, Team Sprint. In these events Canada has no spots, the first time in many years that this has happened. The primary reason is that our top male sprinter - Hugo Barrette - had a crash at the Pan Am Championships last Fall (breaking his scapula), not scoring any points there or in subsequent World Cups as he recovered. While he has been racing in the second half of the World Cup series, he has also been recovering form, and did not score enough points to move Canada up the rankings enough to secure any spots. This is likely a fatal blow to Canadian chances to have rider in these events at the Olympics.

What Canada has qualified for:

Women
Team Pursuit
Team Sprint
Sprint (2 riders)
Keirin (1 rider)
500m TT (1 rider)
Individual Pursuit (2 riders)
Omnium (1 rider)

The women did not qualify for the Points Race, Scratch Race or Madison.

Men
1000m TT (1 rider)
Team Pursuit
Omnium (1 rider)
Points Race (1 rider)

The men did not qualify for the Sprint, Keirin, Team Sprint, Individual Pursuit, Scratch Race or Madison
