Road Nationals Update

We have been told that an announcement of the Road Nationals date and location are imminent - with the CCA just waiting for final approval on road closures. We expect to be able to announce information within the next 24-48 hours.

Wheel Regulations Update

We posted information the new UCI wheel regulations implementation that had been received at the Tour de Langkawi on the Forums, but here it is again:

I spoke with Pat McQuaid, who is not only one of the TdL organizers, but is also head of the UCI Road Commission. The wheel regs are being enforced, and 1 rider showed up with non-reg wheels - Graeme Miller. Miller says that he had Spinergys, and his team had to run out and buy him other wheels (Campag).

The other interesting thing that Pat McQuaid said was that he did not expect that the wheel regs would be enforced at any race below UCI level (ie, international sanction) for at least a year. He was surprised that Canada was going to enforce the regs at the domestic level.

Subsequent to that conversation (now that I am back in Canada), I have spoken with the CCA for clarification on the situation in Canada for this season. Currently the Development Committee is determining whether or not to enforce the new regulations at all levels in Canada (or maybe just restrict it to UCI and national sanction events). The concern is that the CCA leaves itself open to liability if someone is injured while using old, unapproved wheels when standards have been set by the international body. The DC is expected to announce their decision shortly.
